I use modern technology to capture images from the past. I appreciate quiet and respect privacy.
Long Story
I grew up in Arlington, Glencoe, and Hutchinson, respectively. After attending two years at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, I fell in love with photography at MSU Mankato, where I spent late-night hours in a darkroom basement learning the craft. After college, I managed a professional photo lab in the Twin Cities for six years. I exhibited my work at the galleries mentioned above and spent long weekends at outdoor art shows. I was also fortunate to receive grants from the Southwest Minnesota Artists Council and the Artist Initiative from the Minnesota State Arts Board. My work from those days is retired. I'm thankful for the support I received.
During those same years, I married and started a family. My time in the countryside was on a bicycle - not under the dark cloth of a 4x5 view camera. As we became homeowners, I acquired a shop, and activities such as yardwork, golf, woodworking, painting, and drawing took over.
Recently, I obtained my Part 107 Drone License, and my daughter received her driver's permit. Between the two, it's the perfect time to get back in the field to make images. All of the work shown here is new. The drone has removed the tripod and opened doors. Looking at my work, you wouldn't realize it is aerial, but it allows me to use movements like the view camera, crop, and access areas previously inaccessible. I do very little post-processing. Time is best spent outdoors.
